Join us for a special evening of lunar photography under the stars at Perth Observatory. This is a great opportunity to capture stunning images of the Moon using your own camera and some of the best telescopes in the region. Our expert guide, Roger Groom from Astro Photography Australia, will lead a one-hour theory session on the process of photographing the Moon, from equipment and software to image processing.
With a maximum group size of 20 people, you’ll have plenty of time to experiment and capture your own unique images of the Moon. We have a wide range of focal lengths and types of telescopes available, so you can take photographs that feature the full disk or at much higher magnification. You are encouraged to bring your own camera T-ring adaptor and Barlow lenses if you have them, as using the equipment you already have helps you become more familiar with it.
These are the cameras we support:
- Canon EF
- Canon R
- Nikon F
- Nikon Z
- Pentax K
- Micro 4/3 (Olympus and Panasonic Lumix)
- Fuji X
- Sony E
- Sony A
- M42 thread-mount
To ensure we can cater to all our guests appropriately, please provide details of your camera brand and model at the time of booking. We are able to also mount most mobile phones on a telescope, however we recommend users have a main camera of the supported mount type in addition to their mobile phoneIn case of poor weather conditions, we’ll replace the practical part of the night with a telescope tour and software demonstration, including image processing.
Don’t miss this chance to capture stunning images of the Moon and learn from one of the best in the business!
